5 - Zigzag Generator: Add images to Test (step 2)
- This tutorial
will show you how to add images to a text and how to fix their
display settings in reference to the text.
- In order
for the command to insert an image to be available, the Zigzag
project must be at step 2 of its generation. It is best to use
this function in vertical view (menu View > Vertical view);
see Note 1.
- Open the
File > Open Zigzag Project... menu of the Zigzag
Generator application.
- A window
called Open Project will appear. Select the project Go
play somewhere else5.
With the file in question open, you can select the images and
determine where they will be placed with respect to the text.
These two actions can be accomplished in the order of your choice.
Select
the images
- With the
first segment of the text selected (i.e. in blue), select the
Events > Image menu (or click on the
button on the toolbar). This command allows you to add images
- in bmp, gif or jpg format - to a text
or a list of words. A window called Associate Image to Segment
will appear. Click on the Insert
tab.
- Another
window will open. Navigating as you usually would in your operating
system, select the desired image (in this case, Go1.jpg)
and click Open, which under standard installation conditions,
should be located at C:\\Program Files\Zigzag\ressources\___.
- The image
will be associated with the textual segment that is selected
in the editor at the time (in this case, the first segment of
the text, Go play somewhere else! You're). The square
with the number 1 corresponds to the display mode Local
and means that the image display time will be limited to that
of the first segment of the text.
- To modify
the display mode, click on the Continuous button. In
continuous view mode, an image will remain on the screen until
the next segment with an image attached to it passes, or until
the end of the text. The red downward pointing arrow indicates
this very setting. Click Delete.
-
After
having selected the sixth segment of the text (i.e. Not
far away, there were), repeat the action of inserting
an image: reselect the Events > Image menu, select
the file Go2. jpg and then the Continuous button,
and finally, click Delete.
- Using the
same procedure, add two more images to the text in Continuous
view mode:
- the
image Go3. jpg to the textual segment So, we went
to play (12th segment of the text);
- the
image Go4.jpg to the textual segment So, we tried
to go (22th segment of the text).
- The maximum
dimensions of the displayed image are of 350 pixels (width)
by 250 pixels (height); cf. Note 2.
Fix the display settings of the images
- Select
the Tools > Test Parameters menu (or click on the
button on
the toolbar). The Test Parameters window will appear.
Click on Context.

- If you
wish for the preceding context of the text to be displayed,
select one of the two buttons in the top part of the window:
- Context
left, image right button
- Context
right, image left
button
- If you
wish for the preceding context of the text not to be
displayed, select one of the following three buttons in the
bottom part of the window:
- Image
left button
- Image
centered button
- Image
right button
- Click Close.
- Save the
modifications you have brought to your file Go play somewhere
else5 by using one of the following three commands:
- the
File > Save Zigzag Project menu;
- the
Ctrl + S shortcut;
- the
button
on the toolbar.
- To see
the result, select the Tools > Integrated Test menu
(or click on the
button on the toolbar). If the window Random Distribution
of Targets appears, click Yes. To exit the Integrated
Test module, reselect the Tools > Integrated Test
menu (or click on the
button on the toolbar).
- Select
the File > Close Zigzag Project menu.
Note
1.
It is just as possible to add an image in horizontal view as
it is in vertical view. However, the point of attachment to
a textual segment is much easier to identify in the vertical
view. Each image, whether local or continuous, has only one
point of attachment. This point is only clearly visible in vertical
view, thanks to the square (which is absent in the horizontal
view). In the horizontal view, when you are at a segment other
than the one to which the image is attached, the window Associate
Image to Segment stays empty.
- Note
2. Zigzag Generator only accepts images in bmp, gif
or jpg format. If the images that you wish to use are in another
format, you will have to modify them beforehand with an appropriate
application. The maximum dimensions of the displayed image are
350 pixels by 250 pixels. Whenever the dimensions of the selected
image are smaller than this, the image is displayed in the top
left-hand corner of the space reserved for displaying images
on the screen. Whenever the dimensions are ever so slightly
larger than the maximum, only the top left-hand part of the
original image - what corresponds to 350 x 250 pixels - is visible.
To avoid this kind of editing, and the loss of information that
results, it is best to reduce the size of the image so that
it respects the constraints of 350 x 250 pixels (this can be
done by using Photoshop, for example). Finally, if the
image dimensions are greater than 450 by 350 pixels, the insertion
of the image will be denied.
