Tools >
Define Codes

- To manually
code text segments, you must first use the command Tools
> Define Codes and then the command Tools
> Assign Codes to Segments. These two commands are
to be used in conjunction with the command Distractors
> Individual Distractors.
Adding a Code
- To manually
code segments of a text, do the following:
- Select
the menu Tools > Define Codes (or click on the
button on the toolbar). The window called Codes will
appear.
- In the
Codes window, click on the button Add. A second
window will appear superposed over the first.
- In the
field Code Name, type the code of your choice (maximum
four characters). It is obligatory that you insert a code.
- In the
field Meaning, type a definition of what the code represents.
This definition is optional, but recommended: it avoids confusion
during the interpretation of the results.
- Click
on OK. The second window will disappear, leaving the
information concerning the codes in the window Codes.

- Click
on Close. Once a code has been created, it can be assigned
to text segments using the Tools >
Assign Codes to Segments command.
Modifiying a Code
- To modify
a code, do the following:
- In
the Codes window, select the name of the code and
then click Modify. The window Modify Code
will appear. Modify the code as you wish and click OK.
- The
modifications will appear in the Codes window:
It is not possible, however, to modify a code's name. The
only way to do this is to remove it from the list and then
create a new code.
