Events > Paragraph

  • In a conventional text editor, hitting enter usually entails that the paragraph symbol ¶ will be pushed to the next line and thus create a new paragraph. In the integrated editor of Zigzag Generator, however, hitting enter is used to create a textual segment rather than a paragraph. Paragraphs must therefore be created differently. Adding a paragraph allows you to simulate the nearing end of the paragraph (the matrix columns flow from right to left and they are only refilled at the beginning of the next paragraph). Inserting a paragraph in the integrated editor of Zigzag Generator is also noticeable when we decide to display the preceeding context of a text in Zigzag Test (cf. menu Tools > Test Parameters, Context tab).

  • Adding a paragraph can be done in vertical and horizontal view (cf. Note). Once you are at step 2 of the generation of a text, use the mouse to select the last segment of the paragraph in the integrated editor of Zigzag Generator (the segment will change color).

  • You have three options:

    • Select the menu Events > Paragraph.

    • Click on the button on the toolbar.

    • Using the contextual menu of the mouse (right click), select Paragraph (the mouse pointer must be located above the activated text segment).

  • Whatever method you choose, adding a paragraph will be symbolized by a square marked ¶ placed beside the last segment of the paragraph:

  • To delete an existing paragraph, you must first select the segment to which the paragraph is associated (the segment will change color). Then, select one of the following two options:

    • Using the contextual menu of the mouse (right click), select Delete Paragraph:

    • Select the button on the toolbar.
  •

Note. The commands for adding and deleting a paragraph as pertains to the vertical view have been described above. It is, however, possible to use these commands in horizontal view. That said, it is much easier to identify the point of attachement of a paragraph to a segment in the vertical view. Actually, it is only in the vertical view that the paragraph icon is visible, making the point of attachement clearly identifiable in the integrated editor of Zigzag Generator. In the vertical view, scroll down the text to the segment to which the paragraph is linked. Then, proceed as follows:

  • To create a paragraph, select the menu Events > Paragraph (the option is not checked; by accessing the command again, you will see a check added to the item Paragraph).

  • To delete a paragraph, select the menu Events > Paragraph (the option is checked; deleting the paragraph will make the check disappear).
