Events > Image

  • The command Events > Image is used to add images - in bmp, gif or jpg format - to a text or list of words. In order for the command to insert an image to be available, the Zigzag project must be at step 2 of its generation. It is best to use this function in vertical view though it is also possible to use it in horizontal view (cf. Note 1). The image will be associated to the textual segment which is selected at that moment in the editor (cf. segment in blue):

  • Next, select one of these three options:

    • Select the menu Events > Image.

    • Using the contextual menu on the mouse (right click), select Image.
    • Click on the button on the toolbar.

  • You will access a window called Associate Image to Segment. Click on the button Insert … .

(The image will then be associated to the textual segment which is selected at that moment in the editor, i.e. segment in blue).

  • By navigating as you usually would in your operating system, select the desired image and click on Open.

  • The image will be displayed in the window Associate Image to Segment. The maximum dimensions of the displayed image are 350 pixels (width) by 250 pixels (height); cf. Note 2.

  • When the Local View Mode is active, the inserted image will be associated to a single textual segment; that is to say the image will be visible at the same time as the textual segment to which it is associated. For an image to be visible for the length of many textual segments, select the Continuous View Mode. This option will make it such that the image will be displayed until it is replaced by another image:

  • In the following example, the display area of the first image is limited to five textual segments; it is then replaced by the second image once the sixth textual segment appears:

  • To cofirm the choice of the image displayed, click on Close. Otherwise, click on Delete to remove the image or to select another image (by repeating the actions decribed above).

    Deleting an Image

  • To delete an existing image, you must first select the segment to which the image is attached (it will change color).

  • Next, choose one of the following three options:

    • Select the menu Events > Image.

    • Using the contextual menu of your mouse (right click), select Modify / Delete Image.

    • Click on the button on the toolbar.

  • The window Associate Image to Segment will appear. Click on the Erase tab to remove the image or to select another image (repeat the steps described above).

Note 1. It is just as possible to add an image in horizontal view as it is in vertical view. However, the point of attachment to a textual segment is much easier to identify in the integrated editor of Zigzag Generator in the vertical view. You may recall that each image, whether local or continuous, has only one point of attachment. This point is clearly visible only in vertical view, thanks to the the square (which is absent in the horizontal view). In the horizontal view, when you are at a segment other than the one to which the image is attached, the window Associate Image to Segment remains empty.

Note 2. Zigzag Generator accepts images in bmp, gif and jpg format. The maximum dimensions of the displayed image are 350 pixels by 250 pixels. Whenever the dimensions of the selected image are smaller than this, the image is displayed in the top left-hand corner of the space reserved for displaying images on the screen. Whenever the dimensions are ever so slightly larger than the maximum, only the top left-hand part of the original image - what corresponds to 350 x 250 pixels - is visible. To avoid this kind of editing, and the loss of information which results, it is best to reduce the size of the image so that it respects the size constraints of 350 x 250 pixels (this can be done by using Photoshop, for example). Finally, if the image dimensions are greater than 450 by 350 pixels, the insertion of the image will be denied.

Note 3. To set the location of the image (to the left, to the right) use the command Tools > Test parameters > Context tab.
