Events
> Instructions

- You
can present instructions to be followed by the reader either
at the beginning of the text or at the end of any paragraph
of the text to be read. Technically speaking, the two types
of instructions differ:
- The
instructions presented at the beginning of the text are
obligatory. The default setting is "Click to start!"
You can replace this with the instructions of your choice
by using the Tools > Test Parameters
> Start Instructions tab command.
- The
instructions dispersed in the text are not obligatory. They
can be written such that the reader sees them at the beginning
of a new paragraph or a new section (ex. "In this paragraph,
pay particular attention to Peter's arguments."), or
immediately after the presentation of a questionnaire present
in the text (ex. "End of questionnaire. Attention,
the text continues.") Instructions of this kind are
not added to a text in the same manner as are Start Instructions.
Rather, they are attached to a specific textual segment
and as such, they can be treated as analogous to images,
questionnaires or paragraphs - all those elements falling
under Events. Contrary to the three other kinds of
events, however, instructions must be attached to the textual
segment that they precede (rather than the one they follow).
Adding
Instructions
- Adding
instructions can be done in the vertical or horizontal view
(cf. Note). Here are the steps when
in the vertical view. Select in the integrated editor of Zigzag
Generator, the textual segment to which the instruction
should be attached by using the mouse (the segment will change
color):

- Next, select
one of these three options:
- Select
the menu Events > Instructions.
- Using
the contextual menu on the mouse (right click), select Instructions.
- Click
on the
button on the toolbar.
Note.
It is just as easy to add, modify or delete instructions in
horizontal view as it is in vertical view. However, the point
of attachment of a given instruction to a segment is more easily
identified in the integrated editor of Zigzag Generator
in the vertical view. In the horizontal view, scroll down the
text with the help of the horizontal scroll-bar on the bottom
of the screen until you find the segment to which the instructions
are linked. Then, proceed as you would in vertical view, using
one of the three options mentioned above.
